The statue of the Madonna and Child above, found in the Basilica of our
Lady of Ransom in Barcelona, is a work by the 14th Century sculptor
Pedro Moragues. According to tradition, Mary appeared carrying two bags of coins for use in ransoming
Christians imprisoneds
by Moors.

signed the document establishing the Military Order of Our Lady of
Random. |
| One of the initial members of the
Order was St. Peter Nolasco (approx 1189-1258). |

St. Raymond of Penafort (1175-1275)
is supposed to have strongly encouraged the founding of the Order. |
